Liras has more than 60 years of experience in the processing of plastic materials. Highly specialised staff and advanced technological know-how are the foundation for the new specialised division: LIRAS OPTICAL.

Thanks to innovative technologies and new large spaces specifically organised for such specific processes, from today Liras is able to propose solutions and applications that guarantee anti-scratch and anti-fog properties to polycarbonate and plexiglass sheets. Moreover, thanks to the exclusive use of high quality optical materials, sheets are made with a transparency and optical quality of the highest level.

1. ANTI-SCRATCH TREATMENT

This treatment is carried out in a clean room and consists in applying a special resin on the surface of the polycarbonate or acrylic that improves its mechanical properties while maintaining its optical and aesthetic characteristics. It can be applied on both flat and shaped surfaces.

  • Resistance to scratches and wear
  • Greater protection against UV rays (the product has a high, long-lasting resistance to yellowing)
  • Increased resistance to chemical agents
  • Greater resistance to dulling
  • Does not affect the material’s TL and Heze

2. ANTI-FOG TREATMENT

A special resin that is also applied in a clean room on the inner surface of the piece, and that prevents the condensation of water vapour on the cold surface in humid environments.

  • Improves abrasion resistance
  • Maintains good visibility in particular climatic conditions where there is a temperature difference between indoors and outdoors
  • Does not affect the material’s TL and Heze

3. MICRO-WIRE HEATING SISTEMS

An application used for multilayer details that consists in tungsten filaments with a thickness of a few microns – almost imperceptible – being sandwiched between layers and powered by bus-bars, sized for various voltages.

This technology combines the functions of defrosting and anti-fogging.

4. SHAPING:
MAXIMUM TRANSPARENCY AND OPTICAL QUALITY

The special moulding technique developed over the years, which differs from the classic thermoforming method normally used, allows a flat sheet to acquire even very complex shapes while maintaining unaltered its optical and aesthetic qualities and the control of the raw material’s thickness, making it possible to easily satisfy the requirements of various regulations.

  • Superior optical quality
  • High aesthetic quality
  • Greater transparency than normal moulding
  • Exclusive use of high transparency materials

5. SCREEN PRINTING AND DIGITAL PRINTING

By taking advantage of multiple printing systems it is possible to satisfy a wide range of demands like degree of definition, colour uniformity and multicolour prints.

6. LIGHTNESS

The use of elements made with Liras Optical’s special technique allows reducing the weight of the support they are installed on, so it is an ideal solution for areas like: Racing, Automotive, Boating, Ultralights and also Electric or Hybrid Cars.

Thanks to its particular systems, Liras Optical is able to perform treatments on sheets up to 3,000 x 2,000 mm Flat or Formed and to form sheets up to 6,000 x 2,000 mm.

CERTIFICATIONS AND APPROVALS

LIRAS recently earned ISO 9001:2015 certification, while in order to meet the requirements of the automotive market it is working to earn ECE and DOT approval.

ADVANCED PROCESSES

ADVANCED PROCESSES

CLASSIC CARS

Liras produces components for the automotive, classic car and racing segments and specialises in creating transparent components.

RACING

The materials used are mainly polycarbonate (PC) and anti-scratch, anti-fog treatments and the application of heating systems.

Liras Optical

Single curved or double-curved adjustable sliding window in polycarbonate treated with anti-scratch coating

Thanks to ongoing research and development, special processes can be performed on slide structures and support components, thereby obtaining peculiar and essential features.

Liras Optical

Engine cover in polycarbonate with anti-scratch coating

Peculiar forming processes enable the obtainment of extreme shapes such as a single rear window-air conveyor unit without detriment to aesthetics and appearance.

Liras Optical

Flush sliding hatch and fixed window panel

Since the dimensions of the particular slide structures are smaller than the standard ones, pilots can benefit from enhanced visibility and the sliding hatch can perfectly close in alignment with the fixed window panel, thereby minimizing water and air infiltration.

Liras Optical

Partialized opening

The partialized opening of the flush sliding hatch speaks for greater versatility of the fixed window panel, providing improved efficacy in comparison with the common pre-defined steps.
